Slindon Allotment Society

It was an exciting moment when members started work clearing the new allotment site in the heart of the village, under the watchful eye of Mark Wardle, the National Trust head warden and chairman of the society. The sun shone and there was plenty of community spirit in evidence. Teas and coffees were provided by Sue Foley and Chas and Sandra had brought soup and hot dogs to share with everyone. Further working party days are in hand and we aim to have the plots cleared, allocated and ready to plant up by March 2010 year.

There are still plots available and enquiries should be directed to the Society secretary, Mark Ford. Tel: 814161.

Slindon Eartham & Madehurst Horticultural Society

The Society was established in 1995 and is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society.

It serves primarily the three villages, and promotes interest and education in horticulture and the countryside. This is achieved through a programme of monthly meetings. In winter this involves invited speakers or events. In the summer outings are made, usually on a private basis, to a range of significant gardens in south-east England.

The patron of the society is the famous garden designer and writer, John Brookes MBE, of Denman’s Gardens. It is run by an elected Committee and issues a Quarterly Newsletter to its members.

New members are most welcome. The current annual fee is £7.

Details of the Society’s meetings, outings and events are listed in the Events Column of the Parish Magazine, and the individual report from the Society that appears in each monthly issue. Meetings are also listed in the Village Diary.
