Green Waste collections are fortnightly, alternating with the recycling collections.

Please let us have any corrections, updates or additions. Thank you.
There are many alterations to opening hours and many ‘essential’ shops are in fact closed, even though one might expect them to be open. The reasons seem to have more to do with staff shortages and difficulties conducting business within ‘social distancing’ guidelines rather than stock shortages.
Here are some of the key ones we know about
Butchers
Earleys in Barnham (which was closed) re-opened on 15 April, but is now shut all day on Mondays.
All of the following are also still open – Merry Meats Yapton, Arundel Butchers, Charlies Farm Shop (and the Forge usually has a selection of fresh meat from Jordans, Rose Green).
Goodwood Farm shop has normally only been open for trade customers but is now open to the public Monday-Friday and Saturday morning. They sell their own organic meat at trade prices – and also all their dairy products.
To find the shop, use the postcode PO18 0QF.
Barnham shops
The Co-op closes early (8pm), but Tesco is open until 11pm as usual.
Trading Post is open as usual and seems to have good stocks (including compost and some plants) – but also fairly long queues.
Any news on Eastergate Stores?
Fontwell Waitrose is open (until 9pm) but is said to be busy during the day, quieter around 7pm. David Kibble Wines is open Wed-Sat 10am-7pm
Arundel – Pallant Deli now closes at 3.30, so they can make deliveries.
Chichester
‘Home and Hardware’ stores are classified as ‘essential’ but all seem closed – Robert Dyas, Lakeland and Homebase (but B&Q in Bognor is open but for ‘essential home repair’ goods only). The Range is open, but usually busy.
Turners Pies is closed (despite rumours to the contrary), and at Cook they go and get items for you – you can’t enter the shop (but you can phone through an order and collect later).
All the banks & builidng societies are open shorter hours (see separate page with details).

Deliveries and such like from local businesses
We are fortunate that a number of local businesses have taken the initiative and organised delivery services or ‘order and collect’ arrangements.
This page gives a summary of the ones we know about, and please email us with any additions or corrections to slindonlife@slindon.com
The Forge
The Forge now offer a delivery service for Slindon, Fontwell, Eartham and Madehurst (free with orders over £5).
This includes all the usual fresh produce (fruit & veg, bread, milk and meat) and grocery items plus their home-baked goods (sausage rolls, quiches etc) and they have started to make some frozen ready meals.
This service has proved very popular and special thanks are due to the team of village volunteers who are helping the Forge handle the volume of deliveries.
To order ring 814324 (emailing your order is not recommended as they are so busy that reading emails can be delayed). Ideally ring in the afternoon for next day delivery, to help them smooth their workflow!
Take-away from ‘The Spur’
The Spur is closed of course but they are offering a take-away service.
Click here for the menu on their website which includes order and payment arrangements. Or call 814216
We have had good reports from people who have used the service.

Slindon-resident Sean Lewis works for Hft in Walberton, the charity that has orchards and produces their own apple and apple & pear juice. He will deliver their juices on Wednesdays.

Browns Seaford, Littlehampton
The shop is currently closed, but they will deliver free of charge for orders over £20.
Or you can ‘order and collect’. Contact them on 01903 723582
‘Order and collect’ from Charlies Farm Shop, Bury
Charlie Hughes farm shop is open, but in addition, Charlie Hughes is offering an ‘order and collect’ service. Click here for details
Existing milk and newspaper deliveries
Don’t forget the long-standing village delivery services offered by Milk & More and Sussex Dairies (milk and other groceries) and Hardham Stores (newspapers etc).

‘Catch of the Day’ fish van

Elite Fine Foods
Elite Fine Foods https://www.elitefinefoods.co.uk/ deliver although there is a £50 minimum spend.
Hillside Nursery, Bury
This independent nursery just over the Downs in Bury grow their own veg plants, bedding etc (and also sell compost).
They are closed of course, but offer an ‘order and collect’ service. It is well organised but to keep themselves and customers safe they have to be very specific about how to order and collect.
See their website for details of what is available and how to buy.
